Every season paints the Ohio back roads with a unique beauty, promising a fresh perspective with each visit and an endless supply of postcard-perfect moments.
As an Ohio resident and a motorbike enthusiast, I truly feel fortunate to call this state home. While some might dismiss Ohio as flat farmland, they clearly haven't explored the hidden gems that abound for riders. Beyond the well-known Hocking Hills Scenic Byway, the state boasts an incredible network of back roads, particularly in its southern and eastern regions, that are nothing short of a motorcyclist's dream. Routes like "The Triple Nickel" (Ohio Route 555), "Ohio's Dragon's Tail" (State Route 78), and the various routes that comprise the "Windy 9" near Athens offer hundreds of miles of thrilling twists, elevation changes, and picturesque scenery.
These routes often carve through rolling hills, dense forests of the Wayne National Forest, and charming small towns, providing an ever-changing backdrop to the rhythm of the ride. From the tranquil beauty of the Amish Country Byway to the riverside charm of the Ohio River Scenic Byway, there's a ride for every mood and skill level. The relatively low traffic on many of these roads, combined with their generally good condition, makes for a truly unhindered and immersive experience. It's a privilege to have such diverse and engaging terrain right in my backyard, ensuring that every weekend can be a new adventure on two wheels. Below are some of my favorite rides. In all of Southern Ohio, Ohio's state route 374 is my favorite ride! The Hocking Hills Scenic Byway is comprised of sections of State Routes 56, 374, and 664, offers a symphony of curves, elevation changes, and breathtaking vistas, making it a motorcyclist's paradise. Each turn reveals a new masterpiece of nature, inviting you to lean into the moment and become one with the road.
