1982 Yamaha Seca Turbo...

Several years back I had thoughts of moving on my CBR250R and getting an early model Honda Rebel for a winter project. It was while looking at used bikes for sale that I came across this 1982 Yamaha Seca Turbo.

It was love at first sight! I had no previous experience or even any knowledge that Yamaha had built a Turbo bike back in the 80’s. But when I saw the photos and read the detailed description, I was hooked.

It was just meant to be…

In a nutshell, Eugene, the guy selling the bike, had purchased the bike many years prior from a collector in Nevada. Eugene had once entertained ideas of showing the bike and then selling it on for a tidy profit, but it just didn’t come together for him. He was thinning his bike collection and this bike had to go.

Now the bike wasn’t in mint condition, but as you can see from the first photo, it was in very nice cosmetic condition. It had just a bit over 6000 miles on the clock when Eugene purchased the bike, and now it had 2 more from the time he had owned it.

I went to look at the bike in person and was told that it wouldn’t start without quite a bit of work and that was the main reason for the asking price. Apparently Eugene had paid almost $1000 to have the carbs rebuilt, but the bike still had a problem. It spun over easy and looked great, so we completed the sale.

Oh, did I mention it came with lots of parts and other goodies? As luck would have it, I was late to the party when Eugene put this bike up for sale. I’m a guy who usually doesn’t manage to find deals like this, so all in all, I guess getting this bike was just meant to be!
